With each team having played at least eight matches already, we are officially a third of the way through the second season of the Pro Volleyball Federation, one of the first professional volleyball leagues hosted in the United States. And in its second season, the PVF continues to make history as 24 of the best athletes in the league, and as a result the world, are set to travel to Indianapolis for the league’s first-ever All-Star match.
Kentucky fans will see some familiar faces on the court as three former Wildcats were named to the two 12-person rosters. Leah Edmond of the Atlanta Vibe, Kaz Brown of the Orlando Valkyries, and Azhani Tealer of the Indy Ignite will all represent their respective teams in the match.
As the reigning Outside Hitter of the Year and league MVP, Edmond heads into the All-Star match ranked second in the league in service aces per set (.49), sixth in kills per set (3.37), fourth in blocks per set (.60), and third in points per set (4.46). Her highest scoring output of the young season saw the former Wildcat record 21 kills and two service aces in a 3-1 victory against the San Diego Mojo.
After being named the Middle Blocker of the Year in her first season with the Valkyries, Brown is having yet another stellar season out of the middle, ranking 9th in the league in hitting efficiency (.310), sixth in service aces per set (.20), and eighth in blocks per set (.49). In her most recent match against Indy, Brown totaled a season-high 13 kills on a .440 clip to go along with two blocks and a pair of service aces as the Valkyries downed the Ignite 3-1.
As a member of the PVF’s newest franchise, the Indy Ignite, Azhani Tealer has made her presence felt in every facet of the game, ranking in the top ten in the league in multiple statistical categories. Tealer currently ranks ninth in kills per set (3.27), second in blocks per set (.80), and seventh in points per set (4.10). In the Ignite’s most recent match, Tealer found the floor with 20 kills, picked up a pair of blocks, and added 12 digs in a 1-3 loss to the Valkyries.
Voting was decided by many different factors, led by an online fan vote comprised of more than 10,000 fans of the PVF. The All-Star match is set to begin at 1:30 pm ET inside the Fishers Event Center in Indianapolis and will be broadcast live on CBS.
