Get to Know: '26 Gabby DiVita

Nebraska Volleyball is one of the top recruiting programs in the country; they take immense pride in discovering young athletes abundant with unrefined talent, and cultivating them into successful stars ready to take on the big stage. The 2026 class – a trio of highly-athletic offensive stars and the last of the recruits under the John Cook era, have earned themselves the number two overall class rankings.
Gabby DiVita (PPV ) is everything you could want in a six-rotation outside. She has a consistent all-around game, while also carrying that competitive edge. As a product of Legacy Volleyball Club, she has trained with the best – learning from club alumni and future teammate, Harper Murray. DiVita’s passing is one of her standout traits, able to dime balls in serve receive, flow effortlessly into the attack, and terminate. Her diverse range of shots rivals that of seasoned collegiate players; the 10 '2 touch and quick arm making for a lethal attack from all areas of the court. Her back row defense is just as impressive, holding down the middle back with gritty hustle and reliable ball control. In a standout performance, she had 34 kills, 10 digs, and 3 solo blocks for her high school team; a testimony to her all-around abilities and contributions. Her play speaks for itself, but her intangible leadership qualities reinforce her role as a six-rotation star.
DiVita grew up around volleyball. With her mother as a coach and her sister as a player, it was only inevitable that she would follow suit. “I think I always knew I wanted to play in college, but I think I really started to pursue it when I was in seventh grade.” While college decisions can be overwhelming, Gabby went into it with unclouded judgement and clear intentions. “Nebraska has always been my dream school,” she says, “So when I had my call with them I knew that it was what I wanted. I tried to keep an open mind for the rest of the 15th, but I knew it was going to be Nebraska. I love it there because there really is no place like it; the culture, the people, the fanbase, it’s something you can’t find anywhere else.”
In regards to the coaching change, DiVita feels confidence in Busboom-Kelly and her coaching abilities; “I think that Dani is amazing and seeing everything she has done at Louisville makes me excited to be coached by her and learn from her everyday.” It says a lot about the trust in the program that all three 2026 commits have chosen to stay with Nebraska, despite all of the lingering questions. When it comes to current players, Gabby admires the accomplishments and play-style of Harper, as she was able to witness her rise to stardom as a fellow Michigan and Legacy player. They carry a similar disposition on the court, and you can already see flashes of Murray’s game in the young star. She also looks up to the game of outsides such as Jordan Larson and Jess Mruzik.
While Gabby has plenty of role models, she already has a strong connection with one of her future teammates. Campbell Flynn, a 2025 setter, was her former club teammate and close friend. “I am so excited to get back on the court with Campbell,” and her presence on campus will bring familiarity both on and off the court. Flynn’s quick delivery to DiVita on the pin is a dangerous attack, and it can’t be understated how critical chemistry is in the relationship between setter and hitter. They’re already two talented athletes, and having that pre-developed connection is an added benefit. “[Campbell] is an incredible player,” Gabby praises, “I think that relationship will make the transition so much smoother!”
I have had the pleasure of interacting with Gabby and her parents online, I can attest that they’re another great addition to the Husker Volleyball family (I’ve been waiting for some fellow Italians)! She will join an impressive position room of outsiders, but Gabby carries all the qualities needed to be an impactful player at the next level. It’s merely a matter of honing those traits in the practice gym and embracing her competitive spirit on the court, and I can’t wait to see her don the scarlet and cream. Gabby currently plays for Legacy 17-1 Adidas and goes to school at Grosse Pointe High, you can check out her highlights on Hudl and support her on social media – @gabby.divita on Instagram.
