How Do You Top The 2024 Bluejays?
-(6).webp)
Coming off of arguably one of the best seasons in Bluejay volleyball history, Creighton is looking to the 2025 season and how they can continue their success and go even further in the tournament. Here are four things the Jays need to focus on if they want to continue their success:
- Offensive setting: With Kendra Wait running a 5-1 with the Bluejays, Creighton was not only able to utilize all their hitters, but it also gave Wait an opportunity to show off her offensive skills through blocking and setter dumps. Wait’s ability to fool the opponent’s block so easily was a crucial piece of the puzzle for Creighton’s success. Going into this next season, hopefully, the Jays can utilize their two new setter transfer portal pickups and have another setter who not only sets great balls but knows when to call her own number
- Using the back row attack: Having Norah Sis and Ava Martin playing all six rotations gave Creighton an edge because they were able to use the back row attack so often. While other teams relied heavily on their pin hitters, the Bluejays were able to utilize four positions on the court, yet again confusing blockers and being able to earn kills in innovative ways. This year, the Jays will most likely turn to returning senior Ava Martin as an all-around player as she gave the Bluejays great success last year, but also rising junior Destiny Ndam-Simpson, who did not have much playing time this past season but was a standout her freshman year and can put the ball away from anywhere on the court.
- 3rd set success: The Jays were one of the nation’s best teams on third set win percentage last season, and it allowed them to sweep almost every match played in the regular season. In order to continue this success, Creighton needs to continue bringing the energy coming out of the locker room, and they will be able to put many teams away in a three-set sweep
- Non-conference play: Last season, the Bluejays had one of the toughest non-conference schedules in the country, playing teams such as Nebraska, Kansas, Purdue, and Louisville. The only two losses in the regular season came in back-to-back weeks against Nebraska and Louisville, who both finished in the final four. In order for the Jays to secure their place as a top 10 team at the start of the season, they have to again have success in these non-conference games before moving into BIG EAST play.
