What’s Next for Dan Meske and the Louisville Cardinals?
As you have probably heard, the Louisville volleyball program is entering a new era. Dani Busboom Kelly is returning to her alma mater, Nebraska, where she will take the reins from her former coach and mentor, John Cook, who announced his retirement after 25 years. While at Louisville, Dani led the program to unprecedented success, including three Final Four appearances and two national championship match berths. Under her leadership, the Cardinals secured their first-ever NCAA Championship match appearance in 2022 and continued to dominate in the ACC, winning multiple conference titles. She was also named AVCA National Coach of the Year. Beyond her professional achievements, DBK has been deeply valued by her players, and her impact on Louisville Volleyball will not be forgotten by the community.
Dan Meske Takes the Lead
Dan Meske has played a pivotal role in shaping Louisville’s rise to national prominence since joining the staff in 2017 as associate head coach. Now at the helm, he brings a wealth of experience, a championship mindset, and a deep commitment to the program’s continued success. With a background rooted in top-tier programs and a reputation for player development, Meske is poised to build on the strong foundation already in place.
Meske’s coaching journey includes time with Nebraska Volleyball, where he developed a strong foundation under a championship-caliber program, and Augustana University, where he led the team to an NCAA Tournament appearance as a head coach.
Beyond his on-court coaching, Meske has expanded his impact through social media and podcasting, where he shares insights on coaching philosophies, player development, and the evolution of the sport. Meske’s impact reaches far beyond Louisville, influencing the volleyball community nationwide through his dedication to player development, innovative coaching strategies, and commitment to advancing the sport at all levels.
Dan Meske’s First Moves as Louisville Volleyball Head Coach
Meske isn’t starting from scratch—he’s maintaining continuity while positioning the team for future success.
- Retaining Key Staff: He has confirmed that Todd Chamberlain (Associate Head Coach), CC McGraw (Assistant Coach), and Sarah Drury Petkovic will remain with the program. This staff has been instrumental in Louisville’s recent success, contributing to three Final Four appearances in four years and two national championship appearances.
- Roster Developments: With key departures, including Anna DeBeer, Charitie Luper, Phekran Kong, Sofia Maldanado-Diaz and Elena Scott, the team is bringing in top talent to fill those roles. Incoming players include:
- Kalyssa Blackshear (6’5” RS) – A dominant middle with size and agility who is transitioning to the right side once at Louisville.
- Hannah Kenny (5’7” S) – A precise setter with a strong court presence. Will Hannah set at Louisville or step in as a defensive player?
- Addison Makun (6’3” MB) – A powerful blocker with elite athleticism.
- Chloe Meester (6’3” OH) – A versatile outside hitter capable of making an immediate impact.
- Chloe Chicoine (5’10” OH, Purdue Transfer) – A proven performer with 3.08 kills and 2.95 digs per set in her previous season.
Blackshear and Kenny are already on campus, ensuring a smooth transition as the team prepares for the next season.
