a couple of Mac's California standout stars

a couple of Mac's California standout stars

Being from the midwest myself, I have to make an extra effort to stay up to date on the prospects on the west coast. But, there has always been so much talent to come out of the west coast, California specifically, so I knew I had to do a little extra research.

There are quite a few names on this list that everyone knows. There are some top dogs out there in California. After talking with some college coaches as well as some club coaches, there are quite a few players that are flying under the radar that are bound to make an impact in college. There are just so many players in California, I plan to be writing quite a few of these about CA this club season. Here are a couple of players I have had my eyes on and can't wait to catch this club season:

Westley Matavao- Forza 1 North, OH, PPV 270- power hitter. Lots of really strong energy. She has a great last two steps especially out of system. You can't talk outside hitters without talking about Westley.

Ireland Real- Wave, OH, PPV 290- Her club coaches talk about how calm she is and how much control she has while being so tall and so young. College coaches all over the country have her on their radar.

Katherine Nowak- Wave, OH, PPV 227- She has a heavy arm and all around really good ball control. She often hits at a better clip than her teams OH 1 making her SUCH a valuable player. She definitely has the potential to be a really strong OH 1 on a college team in her future,

Hanna McGinnest- Mizuno Long Beach, OH, PPV 223- does a good job of hanging and hitting. Seems to have a really good, early grasp on when to hit hard and when to roll or tip which is a valuable skill in the college game and one a lot of hitters have to learn once they get there.

Audie Caban- T-Street, MB, PPV 191- A pretty underrated Middle blocker that is just waiting for her breakout season. She has flown under the radar so far and I am excited to see her breakout this season. She's a middle with a lot of height that will continue to grow. Definitely will be keeping an eye on her!

Kalea Lee- Wave, Setter, PPV 183- She is a tall setter standing at 5 '11, so she can run an offense from a higher contact point. Her coaches say she does a good job keeping her hitters in system even when not in the best position. Seems to have good tempo and location.

McKenna McIntosh- Vision, OH, PPV 273- hits over top of the block in a lot of situations. She has really improved her hand to ball contact as well as the mechanics of her swing. I could see her jumping in PPV this season.

Olivia Greenwood- Wave, Oppo, PPV 220- Has a really fast armswing and is getting better as she gets older. Coaches talk about her wrist away swing being gnarly and hard to defend. Her club coaches and I agree that her celebrations are TOP notch;)

Jaycee Mack- Wave, OH, PPV 220- moves to hit an inside ball really well. Her block moves are so strong and she clamps on some right side attackers. Mack also transitions well after making a great block move. She's a really fluid volleyball player and seems to be getting better each year.

Piper Chylinski- CITY, Setter, PPV 213- she has a really high and fast release point which makes for a deadly combo for her attackers. She also does a good job getting the ball to her middles from anywhere on the court.

Kate Jackson- T-Street, OH/RS, PPV 218- Coaches call her unassuming as an attacker, but man she has some power. Her vision is great and she's able to score in a ton of positions. She is also really versatile and can play OH or OPPO.
