Create a Player ProfileWhy Haven't I Heard About Her? Tinsley Welker Blows Up Mac's Radar on Day 1
One day on the job and I think I've already realized one of the cool things about this is position is going to be discovering new talent. After my first dive into the a chunk of the 2027 setters, a new name that I had never read (on any ranking list) just knocked me off my couch as I watched her fiilm.....and welcome to me radar Miss Tinsley Welker!
Not sure how new Tinsle is on the National Scene, but she was new to me and I loved what I saw "in the film room". Welker is a 6’0 setter from HoustonSkyline who I gave a PPV of 226… now you might be asking where the heck did that come from because she wasn’t on our player profile list and she hasn't been LISTED AS A TOP setter in the 2027 class by others… well that’s where the issue lies.
Why is nobody talking about this kid? I don’t know, so I'm here to do just that. She’s tall, and athletic, runs a smooth offense, plays at a top club, and plays at a much higher level than her age.
I think I’m most impressed with her ability to break to the net from the back row and still set a good ball to the pin. It’s hard to have coordination and balance breaking to the net and Tinsley Welker is doing it seamlessly. She impressed me in transition which is something not a ton of setters are doing right now (especially because 90% of kids are posting films in exclusively perfect past situations). I love how naturally athletic she appears. She is so smooth when she’s running an offense... there isn’t a “hitch” in her step when she moves- its efficient. She really is striking me as a kid who’s not just trying to set hittable balls, but also keep her team in order, keep everything balanced, and actually spread out the offense. I mean at 15’s she’s running a back row attack from the right back consistently and doing it in the right situations. This kid knows how to set up a play and make something happen for her team… I haven’t seen a ton of 2027s doing that… YET;)
I honestly can't wait to keep an eye on Tinsley Welker (Oh and you know an interview with her will be coming soon:). I think she’s only going up from here. We started her at a PPV of 226 because of how her skill and talents fit (with those in proximity around her) and I think she has room to grow. I can see her pushing the limits on that number very soon. Keep pushing it Tinsley and to all athletes, another example of you NEVER know when a brand new set of eyes will find their way to you!
