Several SHINE in Florida Opener

Top Players SHINE at Florida Holiday Tourney

While the team victories were a major highlight of the Florida Holiday Challenge, the individual performances also deserve special mention. Throughout the tournament, several players stood out for their exceptional skill and athleticism. Here are some notable players from 15 Open and 16 Open.

Among the top outside hitters were Leilani Lawrence from OT 16 T JP, McKenzie Burrell from A5 15 Kelly, and Olivia Znotens from Gulfside 16U Prime. Lawrence, in particular, stood out for her dynamic athleticism both in the front row and backrow, displaying an impressive range of skills. Burrell, meanwhile, drew attention with her high vertical jump and powerful shots, while Znotens impressed with her high volleyball IQ and great mechanics.

The middle blockers category saw some equally impressive talent. Addyson Avery from OPU 15 Adidas, Sophia Schultz from Gulfside 16U Prime, and Kennedi Underwood from Top Select 16 Elite stood out from the crowd. Avery's performance was particularly noteworthy as she was a significant difference maker for her team, demonstrating a high potential for growth. Schultz, while listed as a right side, proved to be a highly talented and athletic middle blocker. Underwood, with her huge arm swing and massive block, was a force to be reckoned with on the court.

In the setters category, Marissa Jones from A5 15 Kelly, and the duo of Ryan Murphy and Mollie VanDeusen from JJVA 16 Teal, showcased their talent. Jones stood out for her height, athleticism, and decision-making skills when setting. Murphy and VanDeusen, both tall setters, ran a beautiful 6-2 offense that was a treat to watch.

The tournament also highlighted some top-notch opposites, including Amaya Robinson from OT 16 T JP and Isabella Johnson from Top Select 16 Elite. Robinson, in particular, was very impressive in blocking, demonstrating a high level of skill and strategy. Johnson, on the other hand, showcased a well-rounded performance, making significant contributions to her team's plays.

Lastly, the liberos category saw exceptional performances from Ella Horvick from OT 15 T Randy and Gabby Emch from A5 16 Gabe. Horvick was particularly impressive with her quick footwork and extensive court coverage in defense. Emch, meanwhile, shone in serve-receive, showcasing a solid defense that was a significant asset to her team.

Final Thoughts

From nail-biting matches to awe-inspiring individual performances, the tournament was a perfect start to the club volleyball season, and I cannot wait to watch these teams get even better as the season goes on. We will definitely see some of these teams in June-July at USAV Nationals....guaranteed!
