Create a Player ProfileThe Last Time the Longhorns Weren't in the Top 10!
There is no doubt in anyone’s mind that Texas Volleyball isa powerhouse. They’ve been good for as long as I can remember and this season is no different, but Texas has dropped out of the top 10 in the AVCA for the first time in quite a long time… October 11, 2010 to be exact. The longhorns have held a place in the weekly AVCA poll’s top 10 for 230 weeks. To let that sink in here are a few things happening in culture in 2010:
1. Any “Swifty’s” out there? Taylor Swift had just released her 3rd album: Speak Now.
2. A little social media app called INSTAGRAM was launched.
3. The #1 song on the charts that week was Bruno Mars’Just the Way You Are.
4. The well-known TV show called “The Walking Dead” premiered.
5. Justin Bieber’s song “Baby” debuted.
6. Lady Gaga wore her iconic meat dress to the 2010 VMA’s.
7. I was 9 years old…
The Longhorns came in at #15 in the AVCA Poll this week and although it has been a while since Texas volleyball has been ranked lower than #10, I would still NOT want to see them on the other side of the net. Its only November… there is a whole lot of volleyball left to play in the regular season. If Texas continues to play and work through some of their kinks (which I assume they will, knowing how good of a coach Jerritt Elliott is) I would be scared as a top 4 seed heading into the NCAA tournament. If Texas stays at #15 and gets that seed in the tournament that means they could take out a number 1 seed in their side of the bracket VERY early. Will we see Texas in another national championship this year?
The Longhorns have a good team, and always have. Even though they may have dropped for the first time in almost 15 years, Texas is going to be a threat in post season college volleyball & I would hate to see them comin’.
