Creighton Season Opener: Reigning Champ Penn State

In February, the Bluejays announced they will be playing in the First Serve tournament in Lincoln, Nebraska to kick off the 2025 season. This is an incredibly exciting opportunity for the Jays as they will be facing off against their most recent loss, the Penn State Nittany Lions. Both the Bluejays and the Nittany Lions will be looking at a quite different lineup so it will be interesting to see how the match shakes out. Penn State most notably will no longer have Jess Mruzik who was a main factor in Creighton’s Elite 8 loss. But the Nittany Lions will still have freshman of the year setter Izzy Starck running their offense. Similarly, Creighton’s biggest losses are outside hitter Norah Sis and setter Kendra Wait, but have outside hitter Ava Martin and middle Kiara Reinhardt returning. We will have to see how Coach Bernthal-Booth of Creighton and Coach Schumacher-Cawley of Penn State approach this match and who will come out on top.
