Create a Player ProfileFirst Practices of the DBK Era

Spring has officially kicked into gear, which means pre-practice TikTok’s, position battles, and lingering questions galore. This year, this is more than ever under the new leadership of Dani Busboom-Kelly, and we are all anxious to see how she will alter and refine the program. For the past 25 years under the John Cook era, practices have consisted of tedious drills and a strict itinerary. Cook liked to stick with his tried and true methods, and very seldom does he change things. This is something Busboom-Kelly – who was also once under his tutelage – knows all too well, and she can implement her experience as both a player and coach to create a best of both worlds scenario.
“We're all super excited to start learning from Dani and see what she’s like as a coach,” Maisie Boesiger says. “Since Jaylen is our beach coach we haven’t really got to learn from her yet, so I’m really excited to do indoor with her.” For her past three seasons with the Husker’s, Maisie has become very accustomed to Cook’s routines and culture, but she says she's excited for something new and different. “Since she played under him, Dani joked that practices are gonna look a little bit different. But we’re all excited for some new drills, I think it's always good to change things up. But it’s my fourth volleyball season now and ever since I’ve been here it's always been the same, so it’s gonna be a bit weird.” Busboom-Kelly is ushering in an entirely new culture shift for the program; characterized by her young, relatable, and refreshing energy that is – without a doubt – fueling the entire team.
