The Prospect Report
Notes and rumblings from those in the know regarding college recruiting.
Sophee Peterson, Setter TAV PPV 277, There is more and more talk in the class about the TAV Setter being a serious option for the #1 setter. Her PPV has recently taken a large jump, and it has had much to do with comments about her extreme competitiveness, leadership, and technique. "Oh, we love Pete, she competes so hard and leads that squad. She has taken a BIG jump this season." She has been the constant in an excellent season for a talented team that has played above expectations, mainly to Peterson's play and steady leadership, and many are considering her option #1.
Peyton Kubik, OPP/OH Dynasty Volleyball PPV 270, Kubik made a massive jump this week and proves to athletes that this is why we have multiple scouts looking at athletes, and eventually, we get things accurate. "Kubik is among the highest PPV athletes in the class and should be in the gold range. Go back and take a look at her film over the past month. What she is doing from an attacking standpoint is crazy and so efficient." She has position flexibility and can mix up her shot making, giving her options, though she hasn't needed them as she can often elevate over any blocks.
Lauren Forelli, OH REV PPV 273, The REV do-it-all OH continues to excel in many areas on the court. She is steady, but steady at an extremely high level. The question is just how high of a program Lauren will end up in. She may not be flashy, but trust us, the right coaches know just how valuable her all-around game is.
Kyla Williams, MB AVC PPV 270, It's been a crazy couple of weeks following the Williams Train. First, this is a great story because we have commented on her work ethic and hard work. She hasn't been overly vocal, and a year or so ago, she was not well-known amongst the top middles in the group. But, that is not the case anymore, and her GAME has done her talking, and she is being rumored to be on the short list of some of the elite programs. She is physical but athletic, and she still has her best ahead of her. These are the ones that are easy to cheer for, but it may come down to Kyla deciding when she wants to play early at a Top 10 school or later on at a Top 5 program.
Nyla Livings, MB TAV PPV 265, is a name that will be right there with Williams when it comes to big decisions at the middle blocker position. She has been doing it all for that TAV squad along with Peterson. "Livings has played as consistently high-level volleyball the past month as she may have ever, has," commented a scout this weekend. Moving as dynamically as ever and playing at a higher level than ever.
Malorie Boesiger, Setter NE ONE PPV 253, I had a 25-minute conversation with Mal on Friday between her matches at NLQ. First off, let me state this again: she is one of those athletes who "gets it". I'm giving her or Marlie Smith a scholarship simply because if an assistant coach goes down, they can probably fill in and recruit, run drills, and set up for the program. Malorie is just wise beyond her age in volleyball years. It's so good to see her healthy and playing relaxed. The Setter position is muddied a bit right now with this class, and I think Mal senses that, but is excited, and there is definitely excitement for her. Personally, I believe there is a wide range of programs she could end up in. Her camp list is interesting, but calculated, of course. *I will tell you one thing: she understands this college and recruiting game way better than I do—very sharp young lady.
Reagan Wallraff, OH NE ONE PPV 240, The recipient of many Boesiger sets, Wallraff is smiling again, healthy, and playing like it. The six-rotation OH has that pop back in her legs and is exploding again. "Wallraff does some great things when she gets set from that back row, she can be deadly. A lot of spring in those legs, she can get up." She is another one of those OHs that are going to fall in that 2nd group that will be sought after by about 20 schools, so they will get plenty of attention.
****Mac and I want to give a big shoutout and a get well soon to another Nebraska ONE athlete who was having a fantastic season. Reagan Meyers suffered an ACL injury (playing basketball) a couple of weeks ago and is out for the year. She was one of our breakout stars in this class and was doing fantastically. Reagan, we know this is so hard right now, and it seems like it's the end of the world, but you are very talented, and IF you want that college dream, coaches know about you and they will find you next year when you are healthy. You get better and keep your spirits up. You got this girl!!!!!!!!
Sofia Simic, OH No Name Volleyball PPV 221, It is crazy when we suddenly hear about someone for the first time, and then we hear their name everywhere we go. That is how it has been with Simic. She was a popular name again, and I even received a little street cred (with last week's comparison to UA All-American Chloe Meester) "I think Sofia will fall in that category that many schools may try and figure out how her game translates to a "higher-level of competition" vs. athletes they may have seen consistently". Not that anyone will ask, but I'd take my shot. This kid just looks like one of those Midwest winners to me.
Ruthie Robinson, MB Kairos Volleyball PPV 203, The Kairos MB, who is still learning the position, has definitely learned how to run that "slide route". She is a threat on the offensive end, with some big eyes noticing. The South Dakota prospect who keeps getting better and better each tournament she plays just jumped into the 200s for her PPV and will only improve skill-wise as she is still relatively new to the position. "Man, you rarely see someone who is strictly an offensive threat like that at her age. She knows how to terminate it already, which makes her valuable." So watch out for Ruthie on the Summer Camp circuit.
Kendall Strack, Libero, The Academy PPV 170, has consistently opened eyes during the Midwest run of qualifiers. "Kendall does a nice job and is quiet back there. You want a solid, reliable player, bro Someone you can count on."
Luca Bombacino, OH, Michio Volleyball PPV 131: Luca is already getting some attention because of her 122" approach touch. Yes, there are some technical things to work on, but this is a project athlete you can take a chance on developing with that touch.
