Spring Recap: Louisville vs. Indiana

Louisville opened up its spring slate with a strong showing against Indiana, taking control from the service line and locking in defensively. The Cards racked up 9 aces to just 7 errors and kept the Hoosiers' offense in check, holding them to a .098 hitting percentage on the day.

Set 1 Lineup Highlights:

  • Outside Hitters: Payton Petersen & Chloe Chicoine
  • Middle Blockers: Hannah Sherman & Cara Cresse
  • Opposite: Reese Robins
  • Setter: Nayelis Cabello
  • Libero: Kam Schrand
  • Defensive Sub for Reese: Hannah Kenny

The lineup shifted across the next three sets:

Set 2:

  • Alanna Bankston joined Chloe on the outside
  • Ava Utterback subbed in as a DS
  • Molly Urban took over at libero

Set 3:

  • Ava Utterback wore the libero jersey

Set 4:

  • Ava moved to the outside alongside Payton Petersen

Freshman Kalyssa Blackshear was notably absent, currently traveling in Europe on a high school trip—something planned early in her recruiting journey. She’s expected to return for Louisville’s upcoming match against Kentucky.

Standout Performances:

  • Chloe Chicoine led all attackers in kills and hit over .300
  • Ava Utterback made the most of her limited swings, posting a .455 hitting percentage
  • Four different attackers recorded 6+ kills, showcasing Louisville’s trademark offensive depth

Room to Grow:

Despite the win, the Cards will be looking to clean up their offensive efficiency. Louisville committed 15 unforced attacking errors, leaving some points on the table.
