Spring Schedule Announced, Games Begin This Weekend

The Longhorns have finally announced their long-awaited spring match schedule, and it's essentially a tour of Texas that will see the team competing against a wide range of local opponents across nearly a month of action.

The schedule kicks off at the FAST College Invitational taking place in Houston on Saturday, March 29th. The format of this one is interesting, as the Horns will be playing four different opponents all in one day (TCU, Baylor, Rice, and Houston). The team will be split in half into two smaller teams, with each half playing against two of the four opponents. There are currently only three middles on the roster (with the #1 middle in the 2025 class, Taylor Harvey, coming in the summer), so Texas will have to plug a fourth middle spot somehow as some matches will be played simultaneously.

The rest of the schedule consists of more traditional matchup style games. The team faces off against LSU in Cypress Woods (Houston area) on Saturday, April 12th followed by a match at UTSA on Friday, April 25th.

Given that all the spring matches are on the road, Texas fans will have to wait until September for another game in Gregory gym. However, this was an intentional move to get players ready for the start of the fall schedule. The Longhorns will kick off the 2025 season on the road with a couple of powerhouse matchups, so the staff felt it was a good idea to get used to playing away from home. "We really wanted to test our younger players, it's important to get them comfortable with those types of situations," said Associate Head Coach David Hunt. At least with Spring travel restrictions, the team won't be going too far for any Austin fans looking forward to these matches.

It will be interesting to see how Coach Elliott rotates his players as fans get a first look at seven (!!) new players on the team: transfer DS Ramsey Gary, transfer OH Torrey Stafford, transfer DS Anja Kujundzic, freshman DS Callie Krueger, freshman OH Macaria Spears, freshman OH Abby Vander Wal, and freshman OPP Addy Gaido. One thing Elliott has made clear though is that everybody will get some opportunities to play, all 17 deep on the roster.
