Big-Time Players Making Moves: Winter Transfer Portal Recap

Big-Time Players Making Moves: Winter Transfer Portal Recap

With the transfer portal having closed on January 6th, it is time to recap the biggest stars making moves before the spring semester.

Torrey Stafford: One of the biggest powerhouse outsides in the nation is making her switch from blue to orange with her transfer to Texas. Torrey is listed at a PPV of 299 and would have made a heavy impact wherever she ended up. As a Longhorn, she will be filling the big shoes of Madi Skinner who recently graduated and joined the LOVB Pro League.

Eva Hudson: The star-studded first team all B1G, second team all-American, and national POY semifinalist outside from Purdue is headed to Lexington to be a Wildcat. With offers from just about every top 10 school in the country, this is a great grab for UK. With a PPV of 275, Hudson is going to make a strong addition to the offense of Kentucky on the outside pin alongside national POY finalist, Brooklyn Deleye. Could she be the one they needed to bring them back to the national championship for the first time since 2020?

Chloe Chicoine: The second of three to leave Purdue’s starting lineup has committed to the national runner-up from this year’s tournament, Louisville. After graduating both Anna Debeer and Charity Luper, Chicoine is going to play a big role for the cards next season. She has a PPV of 261 and fits the mold of a Louisville outside who is slightly undersized but physical and can jump out of the gym. Her strong all-around game is going to be a big step up for the cards next fall.

Averi Carlson: The Longhorns' starting setter with a PPV of 258 is taking her talents across the state to SMU. This is her second time entering and leaving the portal as she started her career with Baylor. She is one of many that the Ponies have grabbed out of the portal this winter as they look to rebuild their starting lineup from last year. Carlson was one of the more unexpected players to enter the portal, but it is no shock that she has chosen to stay in her hometown state of Texas.

Emmi Sellman: The B1G All-Freshman team outside from Ohio State is joining the national Champions, Penn State. After working through an injury during non-conference play, she was a strong contributing member of the OSU squad averaging 2.87 k/s. With a PPV of 253, it will be interesting to see if she can continue to elevate her game and fill the shoes of either Camryn Hannah or Jess Mruzik for the Nittany Lions.

Ramsey Gary: Arguably the top libero who entered into the portal and has a PPV of 249 is leaving Indiana to join the Longhorns. She made second team all B1G her last two seasons with IU and averages just over 4 d/s. It will be exciting to watch her excel at a top 25 program and challenge Emma Halter for the Libero jersey.

Lourdes Myers: The third from Purdue’s starting lineup to say goodbye has been picked up by their B1G foe, Minnesota. At a PPV of 248, she will be a great improvement for the Gophers in that MB position. Playing with Raven Colvin at Purdue, Myers took on a secondary role, and it will be exciting to see what she can really do when she takes on a bigger load for Minnesota.
