The Winners of Signing Day
1. The Vanderbilt Commodores are FINALLY making moves. We talked with Head Coach Anders Nelson about the Vandy Volleyball Program officially taking off and how excited they are not just to have a top 10 recruiting class but to get started playing volleyball finally. Coach Nelson is starting from below the basement floor- he had to dig it- and for them to have a top 10 recruiting class is a testament to who he and his staff are and how badly they want this program to get started and succeed. I had full-body chills listening to him and his prospects talk about what they are FINALLY kicking off... August 29th; mark it on your calendars!
2. Texas A+M Aggies:
The Aggies landed a class of 4 and four athletes that could help early. Despite losing a highly ranked middle late, the Aggies climb to #3 in our 2025 college ranks. This is an essential class for the new A+M staff as they try and close the gap with the in-state Horns.
3. Volleyball Won: Our final tally had nearly 3600 viewers (with our stream crashing during peak times). What an excellent turnout for an inaugural event that we wanted to keep low-key until we could pull it off. Exposure for an event like this will only lead to more live event day coverage from us and, I’m sure, our competitors. This means the sport wins, as more content means better options and coverage.
3. UCLA Bruins: Another big W for signing day came from the West Coast, Los Angeles, to be exact. UCLA was a team we didn't get to talk with on our signing day for a good reason... They had a match that evening. But they aren't walking away from signing day empty-handed. They pulled in 4 recruits in the 2025 class that will impact the B1G! Between their 6'7" middle blocker and their high-flying opposite, I'd say the Bruins are most definitely coming up with a couple of wins. UCLA is also bringing in a Libero from Cincinnati, Ohio, and an outside hitter from Santa Barbara who's staying home. The four recruits in the 2025 class all have the potential to impact the collegiate game, but I think we can expect big moves from MB Hazel Alevok. Coming in at 6'7", the Bruins will have much to work with. Being new to the B1G, they will need all of the height they can get, and I think they found it.
4. USC Trojans: Just like their rivals in the city, Coach Keller and his Trojans loaded up on talent and three potential athletes that could jump in as freshmen. We discussed it on the show, but the USC gym will be ultra-competitive next fall with sophomores who have gained valuable time this season and this incoming class. Top 3 Setter, Top 3 Pin, and Top 3 Libero are all ready to play Day 1 next Fall. The USC staff nailed it with this class. Watch out for the Trojans in the next couple of seasons. This could be that program that jumps into a Final Four contender very soon.
5 Nebraska Volleyball:
Since bringing on Mac, we have discussed many things behind the scenes in volleyball. Several of them centering around the Huskers. I realized that my initial take on Nebraska Volleyball was wrong. What Coach Cook has done to keep them on top this long is so hard to do. In many ways, he’s the sport's “greatest showman,” and so many of those ideas have kept Nebraska Volleyball miles ahead of nearly every program in the country. I must genuinely respect that because that is precisely what I try to do with VBAdrenaline. It’s like you will never catch him because he already has two or three more ideas in the works when other programs catch up. Those “little things” or, in the case of the Dream Team Camp or Stadium Match, huge things separate Husker Volleyball from everyone. I have to respect them for staying on top this long, as it’s so hard to do in any sport. Nebraska’s approach is entirely different from Texas', which is ok. Both do it very well, but it doesn't mean they don’t work VERY WELL because they are different. So, I must admit I am becoming a fan of how Nebraska does things; it’s a recruit dream, and you have to tip your hat to the man who has made that happen all these years.
What finally swayed me was Coach Reyes coming on our show and his interview with us. First, that guy does so much for that program with recruiting and public appearances. He’s also the main face of building relationships with club coaches (and is excellent at it). It showed me something. For him to make time to be on our show when we all know he didn’t need to do that. Again, this would be another example of the “Championship Mindset” that programs like Texas and Nebraska talk about regularly.
They understand that any opportunity to build a relationship that may better their program, even just a little bit…..they take advantage of it. When others may pass for several reasons.
This is another reason Nebraska continues to win and stay on top.
6. I think Duke would have to be the final winner of the day. We were able to get 3 Dukies on the show. Bringing in your franchise Setter in Charlotte Glass and and an All-American like Zoe Malveux who continues to grow her game. They have a feeling that the next program is on the verge of making a run in the next few years.
BYU Cougars have to be on this list after adding two impact players in a top 10 class and an immediate impact freshman in Suli Davis. Look for a couple of the new Cougars to show up in the lineup early next August and an immediate jolt.
What a day and thanks again to all of the 3500+ that tuned in to follow one of our most enjoyable days of the year. Good luck to all 2025s as you continue your journey. Best of luck at the next level becoming the future stars of the game.
