Day 1 of Triple Crown NIT is done and it was a great day of top tier volleyball. A lot went down on day 1 and we got to watch it all. The power pools were as entertaining as we hoped and the stand out players we expected to see stood out as they should. It was good to see all of the coaches back out of the road repping their schools and lining the edges of the courts. Now that day 1 is officially over here are a few of the storylines were following and can't wait to watch develop:
Legacy is 0-3 after the power pools: I am personally not worried about this Legacy team and think they will bounce back after finishing the day without a win. They had a really hard fought final match against Club V that ended in a 15-12 loss for Legacy but the group showed some fight. I can't wait to see how they bounce back tomorrow. They play Mad Frog 16 Black in a challenge match tomorrow to determine their fate for the rest of the tournament.
Sanai Severloh was a STAR on day 1: The middle blocker from Forza1 was definitely one of the top stand out players in the gym on day 1. She was one of my under the radar players heading into the tournament and after her play on day 1, it's safe to say she will no longer be under anyone's radar and is most definitely reaching the top of a lot of coaches boards. Forza1 took 1st in pool D in dominant fashion and I can't wait to catch them in action tomorrow.
TAV may have had the most college coaches on the sidelines on Day 1: With Brynn Stevens, Sophee Peterson, Lexi Martin, Ansley Shafer, Allie Hudgins, and the Livings sisters it's no surprise that the sidelines were full of college coaches all day. TAV ended up going 1-2 on day one but im sure they will bounce back and make something happen tomorrow for day 2. I would also assume the coaches will be back and parking on court 22 at 7:30 tomorrow for their challenge match.
Malorie Boesinger is healthy & playing 16’s: Nebraska One Synergy 16-1’s setter Malorie Boesinger is healthy and playing her age group and doing a great job. She has a balanced offense and some powerful swings that are helping her team be so successful. Raegan Wallraff on the outside and Raegan Meyer on the right side are hitting really efficiently and a lot of that is thanks to Boesinger. She led her team to a successful 3-0 day one and will play in a challenge match tomorrow morning against VCNebraska.
Tri State Elite finishes 2nd in pool A and Emme Moser made some GNARLY saves: Tri state Elite 16-1 came out of their pool 2nd after a really dominant day. I was impressed with their offense, but defense wins championships and with Emme Mosher leading their back court this group is hard to score on. I was really impressed with her defensive effort and the number of balls she kept off the ground. There are a lot of good liberos in KC this weekend but Mosher is definitely on my radar!
AZ Storm does it again: AZ storm took pool A and went 3-0 on day 1. Tessa Larkin was great as to be expected. Her composure is impressive for a 16 year old and her passing game was elite. Kaendall Omoruyi did what she does best and bounced balls all day. As a surprise to nobody, the sidelines were packed for every match this group played today. This team has full potential to win out this tourney, so ill be tuning in to see how their challenge match goes against Sunshine tomorrow morning.
